Recommended Liability Limits Carried in Mexico

Change to Recommended Liability Limits Carried in Mexico

Effective November 30th, 2012  The Mexican Congress established increase the amounts of indemnities in the event than an individual causes the death to a third party, this change is stated on Federal Labor Law on its article 502 that clearly states that the death benefit increases substantially.  Changes to the recommended Mexico liability limits can be found in this article.

Prior to November 30, 2012, the indemnities were based on “Seven Hundred and Thirty days of The General Minimum Wage or the highest Professional Minimum Wage”, plus funeral expenses, as a result of this change, the liability exposure has been multiplied by two, three and up to four times, depending on the state where the accident occurs.

What this means to you: Sanborn's Insurance now recommends that you purchase a minimum of $300,000 liability limit before you cross into Mexico.

The new Labor Law states:

"Article 502. In case of death, the compensation due to persons shall be the amount equal to the amount of “Five thousand days of The General Minimum Wage or the highest Professional Minimum Wage”, plus funeral expenses, as a result of this change, the liability exposure has been multiplied by two, three and up to four times, depending on the state where the accident occurs, some examples are below:
